Destruction and construction seem apt for January in Mid Devon with Storm Christoph raging outside, lashing and rattling at the windows, howling round the cob walls of the farmhouse. Glad to be in the warmth of the studio today developing ideas from last weeks pencil sketches.
The second stage is collage to deconstruct the landscape. Using a combination of torn up coloured sketches and painted paper, I play with shapes and colours experimenting with composition. The first attempts are still quite busy.
The white quiet spaces are importance to balance the energy of the brush strokes. Gradually editing out and de-cluttering. Using the devices of telegraph poles and wires and fence posts to ‘map’ the composition.
